Our Next Session is coming on May 23rd.

My Dear Almost Bachelors of Arts,
We are in the final part of the second module, next session, we will present our rehearsals and it will be fun -surely- to see our products and efforts in a video; this is a moment to celebrate and congratulate us so I encourage all of you to bring some desserts, meals, candies, cakes, cookies, sodas, juice, fruits, vegetables and this sort of yummy things to share and relax from the tension of the video presentations. It will be a blast. Please, be punctual and bring your best attitude and smile to our classroom and do not forget your videos. I am looking forward to meeting you again and share all this splendid stuff. “Auf Wiedersehen” (see you soon in German).

Note: Please share in a post what you intend to (not pretend) bring to our class to share with us. Myself… I expect to prepare a delicious “compuesto” with rum, honey and citric, hope you like it!

  3. Hello to everyone! I feel blessed for being part of this amazing group. We are finishing a very important stage in our lives. I have learned many new things that will be very useful in my future career. However I have some doubts I think it most be cleared before graduation.
1- In the translation module I was expecting to learn how to translate legal documents such as: birth certificate, behavior´s record, and certificate of school grades. I will be wondering if Mr. Canelo could bring a brief explanation about that in the final encounter. (If we could get some templates of each of them will be fantastic).
2- In the ELT module I think we could get an evaluation plan because I have no idea how to make a successful scheme of evaluating. We are just focus in lesson planning and teaching skills.
    For example:
According to my experience as a LAAU student I have made my own scheme:
30 pts in the first partial (20 pts in quizzes plus 10 pts in test).
30 pts in the second partial (20 pts in quizzes plus 10 pts in test).
40 pts in the trimester (20 pts in quizzes plus 20 pts in test).
If we add all of them it is equal to 100 pts of the trimester.
But I am not pretty sure if this scheme could be apply for any evaluation system.
I hope that you Mr. Canelo could help me to put my mind together. I am sure that some of my pals have the same doubts. Feel free to mail me some template before end this course. Also give an example of table of tariffs for translators. Please explain us it in the final encounter.
My best wishes for all of us! As Asdrubal Canelo said: we are young people with a big talent. We have to take advantages of the English because it is a boom. I feel very encouraged!

    1. Hello George,
Sorry I could not post my comments earlier, however I would like to share some thoughts I have on this matter.

For point No. 1 Translating legal documents: A bit more practice would have been wonderful, I remember Prof. Canelo explaining the way he did to translate a legal doc. in order for it to look as same as the source doc. We need to use all our resources for proper vocabulary and must maintain the same format as the original document, either downloading same images or making use of the scanner or any other tool available in order to produce a trustworthy translation.

For point No. 2 about “evaluating students”: I came across a site where Lisa Nielsen talks about 9 ways to assess without standardized test, it is an interesting point of view, please take a look at it.

      http://theinnovativeeducator.blogspot.com/2012/04/8-ways-to-assess-without-standardized.html

Remember professor Canelo taught us that evaluation is never fair, that every person has their personal learning style and own circumstances, so regardless of the testing tool or grading system handed down by an institution, we now know that we must try our best to be as fair as possible, motivate and encourage our students to be their best.

I hope that after all of this is over we may remain in contact, to exchange our doubts and support each other in all that we undertake.
It has been a pleasure for me, to be part of this amazing group and having such excellent professors.

  4. Thanks George for your post, This is the kind of student I expect in my classroom, the one who is questioning and requesting for more, regarding your concerns I can tell you that I did present some formats of translation, and I explained the way it could be constructed. anyways, I can share it here and we can discuss about it. for the evaluation system I can tell you there is no a standard system, every institution is different but I can also give some explanation about it. thanks for everything and remember this is not the end but just the beginning...
